Welcome to this week's update and thank you for taking the
time to read. Here are some topics for tomorrow's
seminar.

Menstrual
blood
has
long
been
discarded
as
unsanitary
and
waste,
but
now
stem
cells
from
this
very
source
can
be
stored
and
used
for
treating
many
ailments.
About
1,000
customers
have
signed
up
for
menstrual
blood
stem
cell
banking
since
it
was
launched
in
India
in
March.
Here
more
about
it
tomorrow
night... |

CHICAGO: Health
officials
should collect
blood from
workers at the
crippled
Fukushima
Daiichi nuclear
power plant in
case they are
accidentally
exposed to high
levels of
radiation and
need a stem
cell
transplant,
Japanese
researchers
said on
Thursday.
They
said
gathering
blood
from the
workers
would
give them
a ready
source
|
of
their own
stem cells
that could
help rebuild
their bone
marrow should
they become
exposed to
high levels
of
radiation.
Here
more about it
tomorrow
night...

KOLKATA:
Five-year-old
Moinam
Pal,
an
e-beta
thalassaemia
patient,
walked
into
medical
history
on
Friday
as
the
first
Indian
patient
to
be
cured
by
mixed
stem
cell
therapy.
The
unique
method
of
treatment
that
combines
stem
cells
taken
from
cord
blood
as
well
as
bone
marrow
works
better
than
cord
blood
and
bone
marrow

|
stem
cell
therapies
administered
in
isolation.
Here
more about it
tomorrow
night...

Why Our Brains
Gradually
Lose Memory With Age
|
Article
of
the week
|
|
|
A
new
study
from
Cold
Spring
Harbor
Laboratory
(CSHL)
has
shed
light
on
why
our
brains
produce
fewer
and
fewer
neurons
with
age,
a
phenomenon
thought
to
underlie
age-related
cognitive
decline.
The
study
suggested
that
this
drop
in
production
is
due
to
the
shrinking
cache
of
adult
stem
cells
in
our
brains.
